Initial Arrests and Operation Discovery
Five employees were arrested at Club XXXV in March 2015 for promoting prostitution. At the time, a pastor controversially claimed ladies wearing leg chains were prostitutes. Authorities later revealed a larger operation. An investigation into a Route 35 strip club in Sayreville, identified as Club 35, found it functioned as a house of prostitution. This operation generated millions of dollars in revenue, according to a November 2023 report.
Legal Proceedings and Guilty Pleas
By June 2025, multiple defendants, including the club’s owners, pleaded guilty. A Freehold Township couple admitted to running the illegal prostitution operation and failing to report the proceeds as taxable income. New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced the pleas related to misconduct and racketeering. The family accused of running the brothel faced new charges, including racketeering, in November 2023.
Owners’ Response and Earlier Cases
The owners of Club 35 had previously sought court permission in March 2023 to sue Sayreville over police handling of the prostitution investigation. Earlier arrests connected to the clubs included employees like Jeannine Nichols, Jason Portes, and Jennifer Hecker at Club XXXV in 2015, and individuals like Sook Hee Park and Hezhong Chen in 2016.
